Matthew trained at the BBC and is a highly regarded and competent presenter,
journalist, and writer. He presents a live radio show for the BBC once a week,
writes a blog and is in the middle of his first book (he’s also a member of the
Writers Guild of Great Britain). He’s worked on all daytime sequence programmes
with varying briefs including, entertainment and lifestyle.
His Breakfast programme (all speech, three hours) was news/current
affairs based. He interviewed all the movers and shakers. His understanding of
current affairs locally, nationally and internationally is excellent. He’s
unashamedly a news junkie.
Off air he led and contributed to briefings, group presentations as well
as brain storming sessions as well as forensic examination of recent work to
learn and improve. Matthew takes time to understand the audience (i.e.;
demographic and lifestyle) and then strategically focuses features and
campaigns, empowered by firm research and analysis to that particular market.
He’s an idea’s man and is comfortable working at the conceptual stage,
right through to completion. Not only was Matthew required to ask questions, he
had to do so within the law and without bringing the BBC into disrepute, all in
a live setting.
Using his own initiative and judging situations where he has to make
immediate decisions were a daily challenge. It was also essential to be able to
call officials to account without damaging links with organisations;
relationship building and sustaining those bonds were integral to the job.
Matthew is particularly good in this area. |
